The Calendar Poster was a popular form of advertising in the early twentieth century China, especially during the 1930s which was a time of comparative stability and affluence with a bourgeoisie that had expensive foreign tastes.
These Calendar Posters often featured models - both idealized Western girls as well as famous Chinese movie actresses - posing prettily in elegant cheongsams against the backdrop of idealized gardens or home settings, selling everything from medicine to cigarettes, beer to toiletries.  These Calendar Girls or Shanghai Girls, as they were known by, were considered the height of fashion in their time.
In our 1930 collection, we bring back the popular Shanghai Girls of the 1930s China.  Details right down to the cardstock have been taken into account to ensure that an overall nostalgic feel is achieved in the designs.  This collection of all-purpose greeting cards is left blank inside for a personal message.

Convey your well wishes the Chinese auspicious way with this collection of all-occasion greeting cards.  It is based on the "Chinese Auspicious Pattern", a type of traditional Chinese decorative folk art that places emphasis on its auspicious connotation.
An art form created with the yearning for and pursuit of a blissful life in mind, the "Chinese Auspicious Pattern" depicts nature, myths or legends as its subject to represent one's hope and desire, using symbolism, homophone and so on.

For instance, the subject of two black-billed magpies with bamboo and plum blossoms represents marital bliss.  Bamboo and plum blossoms symbolise husband and wife respectively.  The magpie in Mandarin is homophonic with happiness in Mandarin.  A pair of them means double (the) happiness and double happiness also refers to nuptials.  As such, Double Happiness of Bamboo and Plum Blossoms is used to wish newly-weds a happy marriage.
The Unicorn Bestowing A Prodigy design expresses good wishes for the newborn to be healthy and grow up to be gifted and virtuous while Longevity Pine and Cranes extends birthday wishes.  A Solid Foundation and Thriving Trade is used to congratulate a business organization on its new opening.  If it is to congratulate a job promotion, Promotion After Promotion is the one to use for this design implies a successful (official) career and well wishes for one promotion after another.

It is not unfamiliar to most of us that we can communicate using the language of flowers.  The language of flowers, or floriography, is a set of meanings and symbolism given to flowers based on a combination of folklore, literature, mythology, religion and the physical characteristics of plants.
The symbolic use of flowers dates back to antiquity but it was during the Victorian era that floriography reached its height of popularity.  Many dictionaries on the symbolism and meanings of flowers were published during this time and the Victorians used flowers as a silent language to communicate many sentiments that the propriety of the times would not normally allow.

Although we are in a modern era now and no longer restricted by propriety of old, there are still times when we find some feelings that are hard to say and it is during times like these that they are best left to Say (It) With Flowers.
Say you are sorry with Purple Hyacinth, tell someone his or her friendship means so much to you with Iris, or express your love with Myrtle.  Compliment beauty with Orchid, share memories with Forget-me-not and wish wishes come true with White Heather.
